After a few years of contemplating some sort of RV or trailer, I decided to forego the expense and add a few amenities to my pseudo stealth Avalanche base camper, used this year in campgrounds, trail heads and parking lots. Blog article here.

So you actually fit sleeping lengthwise in the back seat?

It appears that the back seat is head and shoulders while legs extend into the truck bed through the truck's unique "midgate". Slick solution. What do you do for ventilation?

You reminded me that not everyone is familiar with this vehicle, so I have added info in the blog...thanks. The Avalanche has a mid gate that folds on top of the rear fold down seats, opening up the space from the front seats all the way back to the tailgate while staying enclosed. There is enough room to fit an 8 X 4 sheet of plywood in the back. This means I can sleep with the head end in the cab and the legs extended under the rear deck and still have 2 feet of space in the rear for gear.

I used a jig saw to fashion a piece of wood to the same dimensions as the removable rear window, then cut out two sections and covered it with a screen after painting it black. There is a cutout in the mid gate to store the rear window, so I just leave it in there all the time and swap out windows for camping.

You've got about the same room and configuration as a teardrop trailer. I have gone from a tent, to a teardrop, to an A-frame and now have a fiberglass all amenities trailer. I have it hitched and ready to go today. It is simple, but seems luxurious to me.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities
