Very true that what benefits one might be a detriment to another. As mentioned in my original post, it would be my personal preference to have more daylight in the evening, but I understand others may feel different.
And I'm not sure I'd want to extend your rationale of man's control as sad much further. Even if we just stick to the topic of time, it's a pretty scary proposal, as I'm pretty sure it was "man" that introduced the idea of quantifying time. That would be a challenging platform from which to back away.

Urrhhaaa...this one kills me.
DST is what we all want to keep. It's standard time that is the devil here. We are in Standard time now. And it SUCKS!
Lock in DST and let's never look back.

To Chief Joseph I would suggest I have never felt like a white guy in the USA. I was born here and this place is a huge melting pot of cultures and colors.

I agree AR...my comments are somewhat "tongue in cheek"....but one has to admit that the Native Americans took way better care of this land than the immigrants have, no matter the color-race-origin.
I am not native myself, but have a huge respect for their culture and way of life before modern technology, immigration and over-population took effect in this country.

I'm all set. Got a UTC-PDT calculator bookmarked so I'll know what time it really is.

100% agreement! But the legislation currently proposed is (as usual) to stay on Standard Time year-round:

Well if Kansas could pass a law that pi is equal to 3.0 WA could pass a law that the sun comes up at 7:30 am and sets at 8:00 pm all year round. We could just have variable length hours.

A myth, although I'm sure they've passed much sillier laws. Everyone knows that pi equals 4.

Actually,it only passed the lower house. In the case of time however it works as time is completely arbitrary. It only needs to be consistent. I said before we could adopt GMT and just set our times +-x for each location or state. Anything you want, talk about FREEDOM. There is no real time.

What??? WHY???
The VAST majority of people I've talked to want DST year-round.
Like most people, I'm not doing anything first thing in the morning that requires any daylight. Get up, feed the dogs, shower, make breakfast, dress, go to work.
It's the afternoon when I want that light, so I can walk the dogs without a flashlight, or work in the yard or around the house a little.
I think we need a letter writing campaign to our elected representatives.

Quote: | NEW SECTION. Sec. 1. The legislature finds that the state of
Washington would benefit from the consistency and predictability of
observing Pacific Standard Time throughout the calendar year.
Research has shown that changing to and from daylight saving time
twice per year has negative impacts on public health, increases
traffic accidents and crime, disrupts agriculture scheduling, and
hinders economic growth. Scientific studies have connected a number
of health consequences with the act of switching between standard
time and daylight saving time, including greater risks of heart
attacks, more frequent workplace injuries, and increased suicide
rates in the days immediately after the switch. |
Apparently federal law allows states to opt out of observing DST, but no provision is made for wanting to stay on it year-round. That's unfortunate. Though it seems several states have floated all-DST proposals anyway. (CT, IL, MI, MS, NH, NM, WY) New Mexico's plan was to stay on Standard Time - while moving the state into the Pacific time zone!
Why are all 7 sponsors of our bill Republicans? They upset about people having too much fun after 9 o'clock?
