This is SAD! It looks like it will be a long while before the N Fork is open again

Should still be able to walk across lake on the causeway and then take the Shady Lane trail over the Staircase area.

Does this mean Olympic National Park will NOT even let you walk across the washout up to the Staircase trail?

Art is an adventure.

According to this trip report at WTA that is what this party did but it doesn't answer your question Stefan.

You can drive over the causeway and hike in on Shady lane and get into the park for free.

Might be a quieter winter to hike the N Fk Skok.

Its always gated every time I've been there. I thought the cabin owners on the other side of the lake had keys.

Has anyone been over the causeway? What is the gate status? Weather is looking decent for family walk next weekend. Best.

Yes, you can drive over the causeway to reach the Dry Creek Trail, Copper Creek Trail and the other side of the Shady Lane Trail. The gate was not closed.

Staircase is pretty much always a zoo, I avoid it unless I am going off trail or it's something like a Monday in December and its raining. Can't tolerate the place most of the time and that's just as well since I like to hike with a dog.
