Alleged Sockpuppet!

I did not know that Spokane was farther north than Montreal. I never really thought about it. I do know that I used to seem to go into a wanting to hibernate mode when the days got short. I don't seem to be that way so much now. And yes, I got out just about every day and even up into the sunshine of E. Warshington when we were having those winter inversions. Anyway, here's the article and it isn't from Seattle. Darkness

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Blue light from computer monitors doesn't help either!

Nature exists with a stark indifference to humans' situation.

Just bought glasses from Costco and they gave me a 'free' (actually 0.02) lens coating that is supposed to reflect the blue light. You can see a odd bluish reflection off the glasses. Not sure if it helps, but it seems like an effort is being made to reduce our exposure.

Vitamin D, 5000 IU, and regular exercise seems to do the trick. That and re-reading old trip reports from sunnier days...

I agree getting outside and moving is a huge help. I'll admit I had to lookup if Seattle was further north than Spokane. Too bad it's so hard to find good spots around here!

I gotta put in a plug for my educator friends and family..and others who commit to long hours indoors during our winter murk... At my school in Granite Falls our contract day starts at 7:05, then we're under florescent lights for 8-9 hours, many staffers then go coach indoor extra-curriculars under mercury-vapor(?), then maybe home. Drive to school in headlights/dark, work under funky illumination...drive home in headlights/dark. No wonder we're stressed, fatigued, grumpy, anxious, etc. Tom

Blue light can be effective against SAD. Yes it might contribute to sleep loss. But sleep deprivation is an effective treatment for depression. Use of a dawn simulator might be a good place to start for someone suffering mild SAD. The seasons don't seem to affect my mood much and I suspect most people are in the same boat unless they read too many articles about the disorder (which may be an evolutionary adaptation that helps conserve energy during winter).

This entire forum could be said to be exclusively about "first world problems". Eliminate by that criteria, and you could just shut down the forum. rolleyes.gif My daughter suffers from extreme SAD's and lives in Seattle....a bad combination. The blue lights help her a lot. She really looks forward to the day after Winter Solstice...and on.

I must be weird - I love this weather, 46F and rain! Overcast and raining all day so far. However, to put it in perspective, at home it's -4F right now, up from -21 last night. hockeygrin.gif
