Your account brings back great memories for me, too, from my scouting " 50 milers." Our troop broke the Wonderland into halves over two summers in 1963 and '64. I doubt there was a permit system then....we just hiked and camped. I was the envy of the other teenagers and parents with my Trailwise frame pack and my down bag from the Ski Hut in Berkeley....anyone remember that stuff?
Your picture of Mystic Lake brings back other memories of my first-ever backpack at age 10. I had a pre WWII canvas rucksack with no frame. An older boy caught a big trout, and I got blisters for the first time in my life. Oh, and I fell in a creek!

wow! sure glad you took photos! great recall on your trip...like someone said, you never forget your first,
1987, I was busy with 2 daughters! I don't even think I knew of the wonderland trail, although I did visit the park often in the 70s.
