I'm writing some articles on celebrating 35 years in MRNP this year, found some old photos, and tried to piece together that first trip. I didn't keep a log for many years but I've found the simple act of writing helps recall some long forgotten memories. http://www.williswall.com/35-years-in-mrnp-2/2018/1/20/my-first-wonderland-trail-hike-1987

Wonderful, WW ! Nostalgia. Your account brings back great memories for me, too, from my scouting " 50 milers." Our troop broke the Wonderland into halves over two summers in 1963 and '64. I doubt there was a permit system then....we just hiked and camped. I was the envy of the other teenagers and parents with my Trailwise frame pack and my down bag from the Ski Hut in Berkeley....anyone remember that stuff? Your picture of Mystic Lake brings back other memories of my first-ever backpack at age 10. I had a pre WWII canvas rucksack with no frame. An older boy caught a big trout, and I got blisters for the first time in my life. Oh, and I fell in a creek!

Really nice read. Even then you had a great sense for pictures which bring the tale alive.

It's great you took photos on that trip and kept track of them all these years. Thanks for the glimpse into the past.
