of course with our typical NW luck, it'll be cloudy and/or raining. Pessimist here...

Al's gonna be pissed. Doesn't like changes to his routine. "Why's he getting up an hour early to feed me? And why are we doing our walk now? Why not wait for the rain to stop...?"

Note for beach visitors it also will be the highest predicted tide of the year.

I went outside in the middle of the night to test my eclipse glasses that I still have from this summer and I couldn’t see sh##. Do they expire? Everything was just black. I even looked at the moon.

I got up to see it and was hoping for the giant moon effect. Nope. It is just a regular moon slowly getting blocked, and it is 22 degrees out there so I'm back in the house. Yup. I am a wimp this morning.
I liked the camping and viewing of the last eclipse at Skamokawa a lot better! Maybe if I had my portable campfire I could have set it up in the front yard and had a better experience. Alas, it is still in the storage in Morton.
What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

I take it back. The reddish color was pretty cool when it was total or close to it.

The clouds cleared just enough in Spokane to view it. Cool!

If you missed the eclipse, here's a livestream from Griffith Park Observatory down in Los Angeles. This is the entire show--over four hours, but you can skip ahead as you like. Some interesting commentary at times and light background music otherwise. You also can hear the crowd outside on the lawn cheering from time to time. The totality occurs around 2:10:00 or so. Enjoy. ~z

The full "super" "blue" moon was beautiful about 10 pm last night here east of Portland. However, when I got up at 4 am, it was cloudy and drizzling. This time of year is not very favorable for astronomical events!
