I just came across this photo in the Sno-Isle Collection. "The second incarnation of Canyon Creek Lodge was right on Mt Loop Highway, a couple miles northeast of Granite Falls. Mrs. F.D.Roosevelt visited the Lodge once, ca 1936, with a relative from Seattle, and that visit spawned lots of local excitement as well as a number of inaccurate legends."
I remember this lodge pretty well - just before Masonic Park and Sand Hill. It was there until the early 1970's and they had a stable full of horses you could hire and take out on trails along Sand Hill.
Here's a few more:
Big 4 Inn about 1940, tracks removed
Silverton Station about 1940
Verlot in 1938
Silverton Suspension Bridge in 1936
Silverton in 1910
Silverton Concentrator 1908
Silverton Hotel, date unknown
This hotel stood right next to the south side of the highway until the late 1960's when it finally collapsed under heavy snow. The front desk and guest register were still there to the end.
Here's a different perspective of the Monte Cristo concentrator than you usually see
