Sunny and relatively warm around Paradise today. Mostly clear skies and very little wind. Below 7,000 ft. there was about 2-3 inches of fresh snow on top of a supportable crust. Decent for skiing or booting. Not much need for snowshoes IMO.
Above Pan Point the snow was icy and wind-affected, making for some interesting ski conditions...but great for hiking. Ski or regular crampons highly recommended, depending on your mode of travel. Someone actually carried a sled all the way up to Muir, but unfortunately I didn't stick around to see the outcome of their descent.
One guided group made the summit this morning, so upper mountain conditions are apparently good for climbing.
Later in the afternoon some low clouds rolled in and temporarily socked in Paradise, but they dispersed before I left.
9 miles RT with 4,500 ft. of gain.
