It's like when I read about ticks--I can feel them crawling. Same for my eyes, now. I wish I hadn't read this story, but it has been headlined nationwide.

Can't get to the WP story linked above due to pay wall, but a separate AP news story on this (possibly the same text as AP tends to get picked up broadly) seemed to imply that she likely got this from horseback riding near cow farms around Gold Beach, not necessarily from hiking near Bend. Just fwiw...

They are nematodes (hairworms) one type or another is umbiquious they cover our whole body and are found throughout our body. Most are harmless but if you ever looked through a microscope at any thing in the natural world you have seen thousands of them.
