Hello All, In advance I want to let you know that I'm really thankful for any of your input. I'm new to this area and this forum. I tried to search for options, but was slightly overwhelmed not knowing geography that well. So, here is the thing. I'd like to do some snowshoeing or XC skiing this coming weekend (on Saturday). I will be staying in Graham, WA area. Would you be awesome and recommend me a place or two or several, not terribly far away from Graham that would be worth checking out? When it comes to my skills, I love both, however, probably wouldn't consider myself the most high-end/in-crazy-shape XC skiier. Goes without saying that I would be extremely thankful for your input. With hopes of contributing to this forum! Sincerely, Niko

Rainier. If the weather isn't bad, I think the most obvious place would be Paradise. The gate opens at 9 AM. You'll want snowshoes or touring skis since they don't have groomed trails. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/paradise https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/panorama-point-snowshoe https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/go-hiking/hikes/mazama-ridge https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/hikes/reflection-and-louise-lakes-snowshoe/

Take a look at the MTTA trail system outside of Ashford. They're not in the park, but you will have a good view of Rainier from most of the huts and these are groomed trails. Trails in the south district to High Hut are fairly steep and can be icy. More mellow in the north district, though not always groomed beyond Copper Creek hut.

Both of those sound like good options. Just to add to what Just_Some_Hiker said, there are some pretty easy routes around Paradise that work well for skinny skis. It isn't groomed, but it is pretty easy. I would stop in the visitor center and ask for recommendations. They used to have a good map of various routes but I can't find it online. The main thing it to be aware of avalanche danger (which is why it is worth reading the descriptions as well as being aware of conditions).
