Yes, the road is closed to motor vehicles. You can walk the road.

Matt and WaState, Maybe things have changed recently...but... In the past, simple answers to this question were not forthcoming...lots of forum noise regarding the access road: https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8011764&highlight=mt+higgins+mount Josh Lewis also posted some info about large and scary dogs up near the private areas but my search skills are not up to snuff. Good luck. Tom

Is there a traverse from Round Mtn to Higgins? That would be more interesting than the road walk. Which I believe starts at/near the highway now. I couldn’t do a traverse like that, but perhaps the original poster can.

I'm guessing the OP is asking about the Higgens Lookout high point. Traversing from Round would mean going past the main Higgens summit, then Skadulgwas -- not easy at all.

Ya, didn't think it was very; but I didn't remember just how difficult it was! I miss that place. Good lord, I loved that trail. Never have seen so many marsh marigold as there are up there.

Great trail ''tis a pity" access is now so hard.

This is the last report on WTA dated May 27, 2017. Says it's a 2.5 mile walk to the trailhead. Not impossible to do but add a few hours to the trip time. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/trip_report.2017-05-31.6641635382

Is it only 2.5 miles to the trail head from the Stilly? It always seems so much longer. So yeah, OK, it's doable. I think the road is fairly steep, so no biking it for me! Edit: you're so right; old trip report directions say 2.4 from the bridge over the Stilly.

Load of Crap these Gates. I got no where with land owner. Now no parking signs. Sorry, sore subject.

Tough call, that. C Post Road at 530 might be within the "No Stopping or Parking" zone of the slide area. If that's the case, then no parking. I think there are other pullouts nearby for the Whitehorse trail though; call Darrington to see what they say. This is a DNR issue, but USFS knows more (and cares more, I think) about recreation on Higgins than DNR does

I remeber right before the road closing multiple parties shooting guns along the road from the river to the trailhead. It was over top rediculis of how many were shooting with every kind of gun. I am not antigun but that was not aproperate. Hence i asume that was the cause of the road closing

Fond memories of the Higgins high point from more years ago than I care to admit. Weekend trip with high school buddies. The lookout was closed but the building was still there then. Great times.

Life is short so live it well.
