I'm actually thinking about getting a used pair of Grivel G10s with the New Classic binding and modifying them for trail use- cut off front points and shorten other eight; I know they hold up to my use.
Have you checked out the Kahtoola K10 hiking crampons? I've had a pair of these for about 5 years and they're still in one piece.
The downward front points on those seem like they'd be a major trip-hazard on anything except soft snow. Especially for someone who tends to (rudely ) run down the trails.
Just flying back from southern Nevada where I've enjoyed four days of snow, ice, and rain-free hiking in tshirt and shorts. I haven't paid a lick of attention to Seattle weather, but if it's still cold and icy I'll be able to try out the Snowlines this week. My Nevada hiking parter and the Kahtoola version and says they ice up badly.
Used the Snowlines coming down the top 500 vert of Ye Olde Cable Line tonight due to icy spots and a 55 pound load. They stayed on and intact; first test passed.
