Six Moon Designs Flight series 30 and 40 lightweight backpacks look very interesting it seems like the multi-pocket shoulder harness once used on running vest’s is being adopted into more backpacking brands all the time.

This looks interesting, I would definitely like to try it on

I am currently hiking in a UD Fastpack 45L and the shoulder strap storage holds my sunglasses, reading glasses, small flexible tripod for camera / iPhone, Clif bar, several GU’s, my iPhone, small pack towel, and I have several spots empty.

It's hard to go away from convenient front pocket storage once you've experienced it

I have the SMD FKT 40 with a vest harness and I like it. It would be nice to have a front pocket but I get along OK lashiing stuff to the bungee cord on the front of the pack. I think it weighs about 38 ounces. It fits me well, rides well, and the vest is very comfortable.

Thanks have to keep telling Hit the Trail about the SMD pack so he buys it and I can check it out. My daughter is over here right now raiding my gear stash.

Yeah, and then he will want to make a trade for some of his vast inventory. There has been quite a gear flow between us over the years. And, boots since we wear the same size.

One other way to get at having front storage - using a fanny pack as a belly pack. My ULA Catalyst has belt pockets but I still like having a belly pack for items I want handy. Lowe Alpine's Mesa model works well, features compression straps and functions well as a small pack for day hiking away from camp.

I like having the ability to add/subtract thin pile hats/balaclava or a wind vest without taking the backpack off.
