Road blocked by fallen tree about 1.5 mile before trail head. We stopped about 2 miles from trail head due to hard slick snow We had a 4x4 so went a ways on snow patches etc. Weather was perfect in the morning. Could follow the trail fairly well but lost it before the upper meadow area. I used my GPS but it put us above the trail which made it a little more strenuous travel for a ways (found the right way on the way down}. Used snow shoes about half way up the trail onward. Side hilling with snowshoes works the feet and legs harder.
Made up to the upper meadow area and turned around due to tired legs and not wanting to come
down in the dark. Hiked about a total of 9 hours.
Weather was starting to turn worse when we turned around but had fairly good views of peaks
partly covered with clouds.
Had the whole mountain to ourselves on a Saturday. March 17 2018
Gear. Need snowshoes, ice axe, trekking poles, some emergency bivvy gear just in case. Check for avalanche danger, there were some old slides.
