I've got a bunch of wool socks, some alpaca ones, and, for the past season, some yak ones too. They've become my favorite. They're soft like cashmere, thick and cushiony, really warm but never too warm, and feel dry when I get 'em wet.
Mine are Yakamel, from Mongolia, I get them on Amazon. Reviews for other yak socks I found mentioned scratchiness. These are very, very soft.
The ones that I have are very scratchy (non treated wool ) but work well for me with boots. Too thick for mids. I like them in wet weather because they remain warm when wet.
(I grew up wearing handmade untreated sheep wool socks...)
