Canyon Creek Lodge about 1950

I just came across this photo in the Sno-Isle Collection. "The second incarnation of Canyon Creek Lodge was right on Mt Loop Highway, a couple miles northeast of Granite Falls. Mrs. F.D.Roosevelt visited the Lodge once, ca 1936, with a relative from Seattle, and that visit spawned lots of local excitement as well as a number of inaccurate legends." I remember this lodge pretty well - just before Masonic Park and Sand Hill. It was there until the early 1970's and they had a stable full of horses you could hire and take out on trails along Sand Hill. Here's a few more:

This hotel stood right next to the south side of the highway until the late 1960's when it finally collapsed under heavy snow. The front desk and guest register were still there to the end. Here's a different perspective of the Monte Cristo concentrator than you usually see

I love this! I try to picture what things like the Big Four Inn would have looked like when I stand there by the forlorn chimney. Thanks very much for posting these pix for our enjoyment.
