We all most thruhiked a new canyon but with the warm weather and snow melt in an enclosed space and multiple fords it didn't seem like the logical choice so we went down the list of possibilities close by and settled on Eagle Rock from the bottom as the road is now gated. It was initially over cast as we hiked the road before arcing off towards "The Rock", the snow began around 3k' and surprisingly there was maybe a foot of snow mixed in with the brush which makes it interesting as it caves in under your weight, your up, your down, and so it goes we hit the plateau and trended West it was 1-3' crusty in the freeze / thaw areas and powder in the shade but we made good time all the way to the summit even with photos / video on my phone and camera and as we were right beneath Eagle Rock the skies cleared so we had all blue. On the summit we had spectacular views Badger mountain to Fortress and spent an hour lounging before the long hike back all though the snow was soft making it much easier. It definitely seemed longer than I remember, but good Spring training. 12 mi, 3300' r/t.
In the beginning out of the bottom. The gate is closed as of right now.

On the plateau there was recent snow thin crust where exposed and powder where shaded between 1 - 3'.

Awesome. You guys know how to take full advantage of spring-like weather. I'm out with the flu and spent most of those glorious weather days convalescing. frown.gif

Looks like a great day for you guys. Spectacular views! Like Rich P, I’ve been out with the flu throughout the entire stretch of good weather, but these beautiful photos keep me inspired to get well and get back out on the trail! up.gif

An enjoyable video that gives a real sense or feeling of what it was like to be out there on that day.

Thanks shot on iPhone but I zoomed to much which decreased the vid quality and amplified my shakey arm but a good learning experience. Hit Steve saw quite a few Buttercups in Tenas George we saw none.

I happened to cross paths with Middle E on my hike this morning and he said they saw some flowers up on Swakane recently. So it won't be long.
