Hi all,
We are considering a through backpack along the entire length of the Kettle Crest. Does anyone have an opinion (and why?) on whether north to south or south to north is better?
Any other special tidbits of info for us?
We are experienced backpackers--probably 5 or 6 days mid-June.
Thanks,
Carrie
I can't helpfully comment on logistics of one direction of travel versus the other. Personally I have only hiked only the short section from Sherman Pass to Columbia Mountain in winter to camp outside the restored Columbia Mountain lookout. Built in 1914, it was one of the earliest lookout buildings in all of Washington and worth the short detour off the main trail.
Although those mountains aren't rugged by North Cascades standards, if you hike north to south you will be viewing the steeper north aspects more often and at least the country will appear to be more rough and tumble.
If that's what you prefer....
