We were at Saddle mtn this year and noticed the same thing. It seems like it rained forever in the Gorge, then we get out there expecting massive flowers and...not so much. Fresh burns are very green, but the flower show was not there as expected, even at the ridgelines. Yes, some blooms but not the carpet we usually see on our annual spring trip out there.

Same thing up on Umtanum Ridge where the Durr Road snakes along. Hardly any balsamroot, some dcattered lupine, a few phlox, and some tiny little ground-hugging yellow flowers that I didn't take oit the book to identify.
I had a pleasant chat withsix local people who came inon their ATVs. They said the flowers are dependent on spring rain,as others have mentioned in this thread.
Too bad the bloom isn't initiated by wind. They'd be blooming now!
P.s. the two Rainshadow races were enjoyed by several hundred tough trail runners.
