Everyone has probably read through at least one Ruth Kirk book. Article in the Times of her passing. UW Digital Libraries has a collection of her works 5 minutes in on this short film is a 1969 Mountaineers hike to Heybrook Lookout

Her book The Olympic Rain Forest was what opened my eyes to the symbiotic relationship between the Roosevelt Elk and the landscape in the Queets Valley, something for which I shall always be in her debt. Every time I walk that stretch of trail between Harlow and Bob Creek I think of those passages in that book. She left us all an awesome gift with her writings.
