What type of hiker are you? |
Social hiker. I like to hike in larger groups and/or on popular trails. Mount Si on a sunny weekend is my idea of fun. |

Solitude hiker. I like to hike alone or in small groups. If I don't see anybody all day then that's fine by me. My main concern is getting attacked by a bear/cougar rather than how many abandoned dog poop bags I'm going to encounter. |

There are hikes so unique that every hiker should do once even though crowded. Mount Saint Helens here is one such hike, the JMT another. I just completed the Inca trail in Peru and will remember to my last breath.

Yes. Wanting to hike alone or away from crowds is so entitled and ignorant. I'm glad we have an arbiter of truth here to remind us of our arrogance.

Expecting to hike alone on a trail a short drive from a busy city takes either entitlement or an inability to learn.
If you want solitude, there are a ton of places , even close by in the Middle Fork Valley where you can hike by yourself.
After all thats what CC did two decades ago at Mailbox after becoming annoyed with the crowds at Mt Si.
Drive 10-20 minutes farther up the MF road and head straight uphill through the brush -- you'll get a good workout and won't see anybody.

Who on earth expects to hike alone on an I-90 peak? Certainly not me.

Well I think CC is pretty pissed that Mailbox is no longer his personal private training hike.
