We were excited to check out Diamond Creek fire zone for morels. The fire zone starts at 3,900' in spruce and fir forest. Very few morels. Bummer.
The Chewuch River swimming hole about a mile north of the East/West bridge on 5/18 looked like this (gauge at Winthrop 10')
Normally there would be a huge 10 to 12' tall rock sticking above the water... No swimming!
Our annual morel trip did not work this year. Morels were out on Texas Creek (Carlton Complex) but they were 1.5 weeks old.
We tried McFarland Creek (Chelan Complex) and there were millions of mushrooms, but not a known edible type.
Sunday we hiked to Copper Glance mine and towards the Lake. Snow became prevalent at 5800'
8 Mile Creek Road is closed at about 4,200 feet. Evidence of pending landslide beside the road and a fallen tree make it impassible except on foot.
Aeroleaf Balsam Root also on its tail end.
We managed to listen to Kroot 97.5 FM as much as possible, ate like kings and had many laughs. The snow has melted very fast this year. There was about 1/2 the snow at Washington Pass as last year even with a similar snow year. It went from Winter to Summer! Chewuch River Gauge at Winthrop was up to 11.5'. 2.2' higher than last year's maximum.
The magical Methow treated us well even without the Morels of previous years.
