Decided to walk out the Obstruction Point Road yesterday to see for myself what shape the road is in and how much snow is left on it. While I have driven this road many times over the years I have never walked it from start to finish and back before. It's longer than I thought... about 16 miles round trip. Nice little leg workout too. While I am not an experienced snow hiker by any stretch of the imagination, I brought my poles and micro-spikes in case I needed them to get all the way to the end of the road, but I was surprised to see that the Park road crew has it plowed out all the way to the parking lot at the end. 8 miles of freshly graded snow-free dry gravel road...gated off from public vehicles. It was a beautiful, peaceful 16 mile roundtrip. Didnt see a single person until almost halfway back, a solo German hiker lady. We talked for a few minutes...not sure either of us understood what about. Also there was a guy studying marmots, tried to engage him in a convo about marmots, but he seemed kinda peeved that he wasn't the only person out there, so I quickly left him alone with his marmots. Other than that didn't see any other folks till back within a mile or so of hurricane ridge parking lot.
Just getting started.

Thanks for the report. That would be a long walk. This trip report answered my questions from the other thread. Thanks again.

Your idea of always bringing a few cans of beer, "for perspective" of course, is growing on me... cheers.gif Thanks for sharing!
