I often play this card in August, when the air quality goes down around here. School had finished up and the forecast looked somewhat promising, so why wait? I had to make good use of the Bear Vault I had purchased last winter, anyway.
Passing through a rain shower at the end of Lake Crescent, I began to doubt my judgement. However true to the forecast, a few patches of blue appeared at the TH, and by the time I hit Third Beach, full-on sun.

Muddy spots and climbs were the usual challenge. My least favorite spot is a place back in the woods on the Taylor crossing - a short muddy sideclimb over ball-bearing aggregate stone, where a slip would land you in the stinging nettles.
Up This Mind Your Step Taylor Point
After the Taylor crossing, I had a fearless fawn approach and sniff me over. I saw the mom and sibling up on the bank, but this one couldn't find them. It started crying fawn noises and went down the beach in the wrong direction, but finally circled back to reunite.

I soon arrived to score the prime campsite at Witch's Hat.

The following day was spent barefoot beach walking south to the next headland, log-napping, and toe-wiggling.

Gentle hike out on the next day. About 20 weekenders coming in. Friendly rangers were checking permits.
