Okay, looks like the same class of boot. Per quick Google search, it seems the 535 has a history of soles falling off.
Getting back to "rigid" boots, IMO truly rigid boots are those designed for extended frontpointing, i.e., UK B3-rated boots (e.g., LaSportiva Nepal Cube) which are not relevant to this thread. Alpine ski boots would also qualify as "rigid."
I will be hiking Spider Gap to Buck Creek Pass, 44 miles, in 4 days in Sept. I have terrible problems with foot pain and blisters. Need some magic shoes/boots to make this trip not a nightmare!
