7/13 & out on 7/16/18 Started our leg stretcher at Little Beaver Creek on a nice hot forecasted week. The trail starts out with a nice 800' or so elevation gain in a short period of time and the trail is shaded most of the time. There were some trees down over the trail on the way to Perry Camp that we had to crawl under (trail crew hasn't made it there yet) but very doable. 4.8 miles later we settled into Perry creek (nice fire pits). The next day the same issue crawling under and over trees. Several bear scat piles. The lower elevation scat had berries in it but the other higher elevation scat no berries just plant matter. The berries aren't out yet. Then there is Redoubt Creek which is running high and fast. The one log over the creek looked sketchy to us . We stripped down and took water up to the wast getting across. The trail gets lost here so its helpful to have your GPS, I used my Garmin Fenix 5 (perfect). Stillwell Bridge is in fantastic condition and the Stillwell Camp is in shaded trees great fire pit water close by (fill up here). The next morning we headed up to Beaver Pass (1000' elevation gain) trail is in good condition. Big Beaver pass was a fun stop. We topped off water had breakfast and enjoyed the hut. The decent to Luna Camp is pleasant. The trail crew has done some work. Luna Camp was our favorite camp spending the night. The fire pit was the best and the creek coming down from Mount Prophet has a pool with rocks holding the water back which was great to lay in and relaxing in the water, truly refreshing during the hot spell. The next morning we hiked out to the Big Beaver dock but not without stopping at 39 mile camp for breakfast. ThirtyNine Mile Creek is not easy to access from camp there needs to be some work there. We opted not to spend the night there and hike out Big Beaver dock. The trail from 39 mile Camp to Big Beaver is well maintained with no obstacles (the old foot bridge log has been washed out leaving 39 mile Camp) and one sign of bear scat. The good ~ Bugs weren't bad, we didn't see anyone The bad ~ We shouldn't have excepted that ice cold beer at the Ross Lake resort 100 degrees in the sun. Remember there's a 500' gain in 1 mile from the dock to the trailhead. The truck in the shade was 91 degrees.
