Excellent! That's astounding to do all that in one day -- we spent two nights out but later in the summer so no bugs. I know that two of my climbing buddies did it in a single day in the 80s -- I opted out of that climb which I regret because I probably could have done it then.
I'm hoping to get the north peak this year, but after gb's comment I'm a little more worried about it. There's very little beta, which makes it more of an adventure, but I'd prefer knowing what to expect.
Perfect music on that video -- I actually went and bought it. I'm "old school" and like to have the MP3 files.
Register rot is why I always take photos of every page when I come across a register these days. PM me if you want an email contact of the person to turn it over to at the library. You could also drop it off at the Mountaineers facility at Sand Point and it will get to the UW collections with other registers that are turned in. Tell the people in the bookstore it's for the History committee.

How impressive to climb it in a day! Wish we had done that because camping sucked and we were awake all night with the mosquitoes. Thank you for placing the new register. A lot of your photos and the video capture the exposure very well. It's a great video that I will watch more than once and also show to others.

puzzlr, we never would have attempted it in a day without your and Stefan's excellent route descriptions. We had no routefinding issues at all thanks to you guys. To do it as a day trip back in the 80's with heavier gear and only the vague descriptions in the CAG, now that's really something.
I've dried out the old register and I'm taking it in to Suzzallo Library today.

Well done, gents!
There's something about Chimney Rock. . . . the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.
Even Beckey (CAG) makes a note about this peak: "Any route on Chimney Rock is a unique experience."
It is as though I had read a divine text, written into the world itself, not with letters but rather with essential objects, saying:
Man, stretch thy reason hither, so thou mayest comprehend these things. Johannes Kepler

Don Beavon solo day-climbed Chimney Rock ~19 years ago.

You could say that about Custer too, and you wouldn't be wrong...

Not being wrong doesn't equal being right, however. . . perhaps you can clarify with Mr. Beckey someday.
