We found this interesting flower thingy last weekend at Jumpoff Mtn (5700') near Rimrock.
Flower/seedpod/bulbous thingies are dry to the touch, and hollow.
Botany experts say it's a .....?

Probably Astragalus whitneyi assuming it was east of the crest and between 4500-6500' on lithosol soil.

I looked up lithosol soil, yes, definitely that. No horizons, barely 'soil' at all, very much just small rocks and dust. The road in is one rocky, relentless affair...12+ miles of driving on what seems like broken bricks, I'm not sure I ever got above 2nd gear.
