welch peaks
welch peaks
triple dipping. using our new formula: 3 swims for every two peaks, we had fun, declared victory and drove home happy. silver lake was absolutely awesome for swimming - warm enough to swim across the lake and back comfortably. route info: park at mt townsend trailhead, hike trail to silver lake, swim, take climber's path to summit of hawk, return to silver lake and swim. swim once more before leaving silver lake and hike back up to junction of mt townsend and silver lake trail, then follow climber's path to summit of welch. class 2.

Thanks for the report. Brings back some memories. How was the litter situation at Silver Lakes? Last time I was there there was TP strewn about at just about all of the camp sites. Hopefully people are practicing better LNT now. I see you rated Welch Peaks as class 2. What would you rate Hawk Peak?

been on welch, maybe should try hawk, but via the silver lakes way trail before the forest service decides to close the road just past the Tubal Cain parking lot! I'll skip the swimming though, lol.gif great photos up.gif

I've had my eye on Welch Peaks every since climbing Townsend years ago. I don't get over there very often, but this makes it look like a lot of fun.
