3 of us were planning to go up there (Aug 25 or so) but our planned 7 day trip is now cut down to 4-5 days. Our new plan is to do in at Dodger Point, set up a base camp & day hike, maybe one to the north and one day to the south 1 of us has never been there, & the other two went up looooong ago. No maps in front of me as I write this, so does this sound like reasonable plan? any one up there recently who can speak to obstacles? Axe & crampon needed or will spikes be enough? Anything else we should consider as we plan? Thanks for any tips. sorry to sound naïve, but I'm the one whose never been there...

first obstacle ... access to Dodger Point via Elwha River (Whiskey Bend Trailhead) will add an extra 8 miles from the Hot Springs Road. it is closed at the Madison Falls parking lot.

A non-climber’s perspective: I looked at that first 50’ steep part from the top towards Dodger Point and didn’t like it. Best. Pyrites

You could probably spend a day or two exploring Ferry Basin.

I was planning to explore Ferry Basin as a 5-day trip via Ferry Basin, but had to cancel due to weather and schedule changes. As noted above, be aware that the Elhwa Road is washed out. Here are some links to past trip reports for the area: Dodger-Ludden per Meck https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8007414&highlight=ludden Ancient Ambler 09 2012 https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8001336 Abert 08-14 https://www.nwhikers.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=8012136
