Dad and myself had been planning a trip to the Wind River Range until weather threatened to cancel our plans. Each day had thunderstorm and rain forecasted, and considering our hope was to climb in the 13,000' level this did not look ideal. We decided to take a gamble and headed for Wyoming on Saturday morning. Took our time to Pinedale, WY with a must stop at the Melvin Brewery in Alpine.
We also stopped by the Pinedale Brewing Co for some refreshments before starting our hike from the Elkhart Park TH Monday morning. The first 4 1/2 miles to Photographer's point were cruiser.

From there we headed up & down for 5 miles to Seneca Lake. Rangers here informed us that our camp must be 200' from the trail and water sources.
The next morning found ourselves heading to Island Lake then up toward the lesser traveled Indian Basin. The trails here are multi-use, as we ran into horse outfitters, dogs, and even pack goats.

Indian Basin was nothing short of spectacular. We were surrounded by high peaks and alpine tarns.

Awoke Wednesday morning to clear skies and began our attempt of Fremont by 7:00 hoping to beat any potential storms. The route to the saddle at 12,100' was obvious.

From here we scramble up another 1,500' of class 3 to the summit. The skies were amazingly clear in all directions.

The two of us got back to camp at 1:00 tired and happy for the summit. Not wanting to move camp that night we spent the rest of the day hiking up to Indian Pass on the Continental Divide

The smoke moved in a bit on Thursday, but overall it wasn't that bad. This was our longest mileage day (15). We headed back down to the junction of the CD trail and then headed for Lester Pass.

Planned camp was for Pole Creek Lake, but we detoured over to Cook Lakes on the way.

On Friday we made our exit with yet another detour to see Sweeney & Miller Lakes.

On the way home we stopped by the Teton's and did a quick 5 mile hike, as well as walked around the town of Jackson (with of course a brew pub stop at Snake River Brewery).

58 miles with 15,000' gained. Another great time in the mountains!!!

They weren't bad at all. Think I only used bug spray once.

That's good to know. Maybe they are only savage and abundant in early season, like at a lot of other places.

I loved going back to the area where I first fell in love with mountains. Brought back memories of when I backpacked the Winds with my dad. Sure was glad to share it with my son.
Elkhart Park trailhead. Obviously very popular. Island lake Fremont (L) and Jackson peaks. Up towards the saddle Derek on the class 3 slabs that lead to Fremont's summit. Large gap on the Fremont glacier. Fremont summit South, Middle and Grand Teton. Knife Point glacier at crest of Indian Gap. Great spot pre/post climb. Dillon, MT. brewery. Jackson brewery Another beer stop. Under the elk antler arch in Jackson.
