Nice pix. I've only ever seen skimmers in Florida in the winter, but they are pretty cool birds.

Fantastic photos! That heron is way more colorful than what we get around here. Must be some east coast thing?

Watching them skim the water surface was the most fun I had all day! agree.gif

I don't know...maybe. Even here, I've seen the brown color come and go depending on how the bird stretches its neck or fluffs its feathers out. Same deal with the blue. It might also have something to do with how wet the bird is, or if the conditions are overcast such as I faced (no glare)...?

Nice pics up.gif Teachable moment for noob birders: Contrast pic 14 or 15 (Great Egret w/ dark feet) and pic 21 (Snowy Egret w/ golden slippers). Gali got some great pics showing these distinguishing field marks up.gif Luv pic 16 hovering Forster's Tern

The Forster's Terns (16/17 are breeding adults while 24/25 are non-breeding adults, I think) were great! They would hover about 20-30ft above the water and then dive down for fish. Unlike the egrets, I didn't actually see them catch anything though. lol.gif
