Last day for us hanging out around Mowich, and again sleeping in til 9. The forecast wasn't as favorable as our prior days but we headed off to Tolmie Peak as, incredibly for someone who has hiked in this park for 35 years, I had never visited it. It wasn't looking good when we arrived at Eunice Lake as the Tolmie lookout was barely visible through the clouds, which were "thickening." Shades of Gobblers Knob. Anticipating another whiteout sans rain, we continued on to the lookout and were pleasantly surprised that the clouds were slowly dissipating enough to grab some views. Once we reached the lookout we just continued on to tag Tolmie Peak actual and spent some time in solitude here as there were some people at the lookout. On the trail up Cassie got stung by a bee on her ankle right at the shoe line, subsiding to a dull ache. This and the weather was enough to can going over to Howard Peak per the original plan for a two-fer; I'll save that for a later date. We went back to the lookout and hung out for a bit, then strolled back to the truck for a nice easy ending day, able to pack up and make it back home with plenty of time for dinner. Tomorrow we nab my son's super sweet pooch, who is just as cute as those puffy fat ptarmigans (see prior post) in her own way, and hike locally before my daughter returns home and concludes her vacation. We had the best time, she helped me bag a few peaks and hike a few trails I hadn't been on.... we enjoyed incredible views, fresh cool air and bad dad puns. At least I did, I crack myself up. TBC next year.
