I've been feeling pretty good this summer, getting in a lot of hikes (for me) and dropping to my lowest weight in a few years. I thought I'd do a push on the Wonderland to see how it went, and started out Tuesday morning (4th) with an excellent forecast in hand. Unfortunately, despite having the legs, I never did feel that good and progressively slowed on the climbs. By the time I approached Sunrise I still hadn't recovered so determined I should not press on for the last two climbs (Panhandle Gap and Reflection Lakes). I was thinking that going CW and getting the hardest part of the trail done first would be the obvious choice, but in retrospect I think next time I'll go CCW like I did in 1999...that worked out for a 36 hour push. I'll just chalk this up to a personal challenge that I couldn't cut on that day (and into the next with a 3 hour rest break). You gotta have goals, though, so I doubt I'll stop doing this kind of stuff. The Strava track was a bit overstated, with 64 miles and over 20,000 feet of climb (I think because I left it going when I was snoozing and it wandered around the area a bit), but that's way out of whack. This section is 57 miles and 16,000 feet. Cheers!
Nice push man. Good to see ya getting after it, been wondering what adventures you've been up to. If you get bored the weekend of the 15th, I could use a pacer for the Teanaway 100. I know I'm going to get lost
