A smattering of library references . . . . (* Starting with King County as an example . . . *) King County Library System (KCLS) KCLS is obviously a big-budget library, because of their huge tax base, so they have a lot of resources, a lot of which can be accessed remotely. Many neighboring (and more distant) counties can also get a KCLS library card because of the reciprocal borrowing agreement. This includes remote access to a variety of publications ranging from The New York Times to the Wall Street Journal. . . . as well as other publications and databases, from Consumer Reports to genealogy sites. Sometimes one must wade through to find the favorites. It may not be intuitively obvious that one does not necessarily need to live in King County to get a KCLS library card. Per KCLS, "KCLS issues library cards to residents and property owners  from neighboring counties and library systems that have reciprocal borrowing agreements." Listed here, under "Which Washington counties...", or here:
  • Chelan County
  • Clallam County
  • Clark County, excluding Camas
  • Douglas County, excluding Mansfield, Rock Island
  • Everett Public Library
  • Ferry County, excluding Kettle Falls
  • Fort Vancouver Regional Library
  • Grant County, excluding Hartline, Marlin, Wilson Creek
  • Grays Harbor County, excluding Ocean Shores
  • Island County
  • Jefferson County Rural Library District
  • Kitsap Regional Library
  • Klickitat County
  • Lewis County, excluding Mossy Rock, Napavine, Pe Ell, Vader
  • Mason County
  • Milton Public Library (annexed to Pierce County Library System)
  • North Central Regional Library
  • North Olympic Library System
  • Okanogan County, excluding Conconully, Nespelem
  • Pacific County
  • Pierce County Library System, excluding Carbonado, Fircrest, Ruston
  • Port Townsend Public Library
  • Puyallup Public Library
  • Skamania County
  • Sno-Isle Regional Library
  • Snohomish County, excluding Woodway
  • Tacoma Public Library (residents must have a valid card from their "home" library before adding the reciprocal card from KCLS)
  • Thurston County
  • Timberland Regional Library
  • Woodland in Cowlitz County
. (but shockingly, no KCLS card allowed for residents of Yarrow Point and Hunt's Point. Hmm.) ------------------ - - - - - A 2005 nwhiker post references KCLS's allowing one to copy its e-books. (still true?) ------------------ - - - - - Library of Congress ------------------ - - - - - National Archives references during the 1936 USFS Recreation Guide maps discussion of Pacific Northwest maps by RodF, and here, revived here. ------------------ - - - - - Tacoma Library: Dalekz references a 1912 Mt. Rainier climb in this 2004 nwhiker post. ------------------ - - - - - WSU Libraries Digital Collection ------------------ - - - - - (other suggestions?)
