Thanks for the report! That is such a scenic area.

but also really didn't feel like doing Arriva since the route seemed long and with a fair bit of elevation loss
Good call. If you turned around on Fisher because of the exposure, you definitely would not have liked Arriva. Not only is it exposed in places, but it is also horrible, chossy hell.

Excellent! up.gif There are peaks for the peakbaggers, but the lakes are the real destination. The gully going up is indeed very unpleasant and even a bit dangerous because big rocks move as you climb. My wife bailed and we camped in the basin and dayhiked up. I suspect that in berry season you are pretty much guaranteed of seeing a bear. We were there for three days and could see at least one bear up on the slopes at all times. Are bear cans mandatory now in NCNP? The Fisher Basin area, and I presume the lake basin as well, has zero options for hanging food bags. Back when we went in, there were no bear cans and we ended up just leaving our food in our packs to mitigate rodent damage. A bit unnerving when you can see a bear a quarter mile away, but there were no other options.

Tom Sjolseth moved away from the area and I miss climbing with him. His thinking outside the box allowed us to day-climb Fisher and Arriva. You won't get to pick blueberries via this route but will be able to bag two peaks. https://www.wta.org/go-hiking/trip-reports/tripreport-2007081804

You are learning well. Here's a wish for a long, continued safe, and satisfying hiking/ climbing career.

Not sure about the whole of NCNP, but they definitely are in the Fisher Basin and Arriva cross country zone. They checked to make sure we had them before they issued our permit.
