I hope this is not about you! If so, all the best of luck with the situation. I have had some serious medical issues over the past 25 years and each time the doctors say as soon as possible the best medicine is to seize the moment and get back out hiking. That has worked. Just yesterday I went into drop-in to see if I had a cracked rib and if it would stop me from going on my planned backpacking trip. The doc said, yes you do but going out will probably make you feel better than sitting around. When in doubt...just do it!

Kite: Best wishes in regards to your lung condition; I see many healthy functional patients in my practice living successfully with transplanted organs. Why not you?

A few years ago I got paired with a guy with a lung transplant for 18 holes of golf on a nasty rainy day. Nice guy. Fun day. Hilly course, around 6 miles, i.e., "hiking" by any definition. 3-1/2 hour round, which is quite fast. We moved at a pretty good clip.
