My 2005 trip report on this peak stated that: "Yes, it's 4000 feet of elevation gain; however, considering the excellent trail condition (well graded switchbacks and lots of needles to cushion your steps), it will probably be the easiest 4000 feet of elevation gain you will ever do." 13 years have passed since that comment and my opinion on this has not changed. At 0.0 miles (2540 feet) - Trailhead for Davis Peak Trail #1324 At 3.7 miles (5740 feet) - base of Point 5988 - start the loop portion of our trip At 4.5 miles (6426 feet) - Lookout Site - listed on the topo map as "Davis Peak" At 4.9 miles (6500 feet) - Davis Peak Central per peakbagger.com - definitely higher than the lookout At 5.5 miles (5988 feet) - Point 5988 At 5.6 miles (5740 feet) - base of Point 5988 - close the loop portion of our trip At 9.3 miles (2540 feet) - get in the car and drive home While the trail is in excellent shape from the trailhead to the lookout and then on over to Davis Peak Central, the trail becomes more of a faint path if you continue beyond the central peak over to the ridge that connects the southwest peak and Point 5988. 9.3 miles roundtrip, gaining 4249 feet of elevation. Photos, trailhead directions and downloadable GPS track of our trip to Davis Peak. ..
