After 15 years serving at Oktoberfest and sacrificing 3 weekends in prime hiking season, I had requested the second (crazy) weekend off this year. I had no idea the weather gods would be so kind.
I had to get me some "Rocktober Color" in the dear Tronsen. It's merely...just...awesome right now. The road from Blewett Pass is rocky, narrow, busy, and magical. Lots of trees still in green-yellow, some at peak, but none have gone orange, yet. Go now... Definitely a multi-use area: motorcyclists (Oct 15 closure for them), hunters, hikers, wood-cutters.
I rarely meet one of us on the trail, but sometimes I toss out a, "Ever look at NWHikers.net?"
Today? A positive response...It was Cyclopath with a buddy. Nice meeting ya'
Back to Oktoberfest next weekend, but I'll be back when the snow flies.

I love Haney Meadows. We used to take the kids horse camping up there and they loved it when the big herd of elk would emerge from the woods at dusk, and then later when it was dark, walk right through our camp. I wonder if there are any remnants of that camp left after the fire went through there?

Bernardo, this is Oktoberfest: https://www.leavenworthoktoberfest.com
Nancyann, the fire ran for miles, but there were pockets left untouched. The campground at Haney Meadow is in full operation, although the old cabin burned down.
