UW took a 2-0 lead, Dayton forced it to a 5th set, Dawgs prevailed in the 5th 17-15. Must've been exciting to see. Wasn't even streaming.

Match against Pitt is streaming currently, in set 1. There are A LOT of empty seats, pretty sad. Huskies get really good fan support by comparison. http://redirect.viglink.com/?key=bbb516d91daee20498798694a42dd559&u=http%3A//www.espn.com/watch/_/id/3428990/washington-vs-pittsburgh-w-volleyball (you have to have ESPN I think in order to be able to view this)

Huskies are getting spanked in the first set. Definitely looking like a rebuilding year. Some interesting results across the Pac 12 so far, very mixed bag. USC got off to a great start but has been losing to everybody since. BYU knocked off both USC and Stanford, they are usually very solid but they might really be a team to be reckoned with this season. UCLA lost back to back matches against Cal Poly. Yesterday was a bad day for the conference overall, but it was somewhat salvaged by Stanford beating Penn St. and Oregon beating Minnesota. Always good to beat Big 10 teams, especially if it's the teams expected to be at the top of their conference.

Yikes, UW got crushed. Swept 3-0. Outhit .425 to .149. I can't remember ever seeing a discrepancy like that. Outdone in every statistical category, even serving where they usually thrive. Ugly. Have another match in the same tourney today against Kennesaw St. (whatever that is).

UW bounced back to beat Kennesaw St. 3-1. I thought the attendance for the match against Pitt was bad. Around 500 according to the box score. Well with the host team not involved, a whopping 43 people showed up to watch the Huskies' second match. Wow, that is a very small crowd.

Huskies just finished up with a round robin tournament hosted by Boise St. UW swept the host last night but had to work hard to do it, set 1 and 2 were really close and went back and forth. Today the Dawgs easily swept Cal St. Northridge and Sacramento St. Not sure about any of those 3 teams so don't know what kind of barometer it is. UW is finished w/ their non-conference schedule, went 8-2. Huskies open up Pac 12 play next Thursday at Washington St., who is undefeated at this point and has a pair of nice wins against Northern Iowa, a perennial mid major power.

Just FYI Stanford has now beaten Penn St., Minnesota and Texas twice in the last 2 weeks. As long as they don't stub their toe in conference they've pretty much guaranteed themselves a top 4 seed in the playoffs at the end of the year. Wow, great non conference performance by the Card.

Haven't updated for a while. UW is off to a 3-0 start in conference play. Matches have all been close. Won a 5 setter against Washington St. in Seattle, 5 setter at Oregon St., then beat Colorado 3-1 just now at home. They haven't played any of the top teams yet but all 3 of those are solid opponents. Huskies are a work in progress, some ups and downs. Samantha Dreschel, a sophomore who transferred from Maryland, has been playing really well lately. Also one of their middle blockers (Sanders) sprained her ankle so they had to start playing a freshman, Marin Grote. She was great tonight, 11 kills and hit .381 including the kill that finished off the 4th set. They host Utah on Sunday. Currently 9 of the 12 teams in the conference are ranked in the top 25, so any win is a good win.

Have been to 4 of the matches so far. Definitely an interesting team with a lot of potential. Going to be an interesting (and fun) season to watch unfold. And agree on Dreschel - she's killing it and appears to be a great team player.

up.gif That's cool Bogart. I haven't made it to any of the matches yet. Glad you've been enjoying it.

Utah was 0-3 in conference coming in to today. Albeit better than their record indicates. Whooping the Huskies today. About to close out a 3-1 win. Huskies dug themselves into deep holes in sets 1, 2 and 4, tried to rally but too little too late. Disappointing to say the least. Now they have 4 straight road matches (including Stanford, I'm predicting that is gonna get UGLY), and then return home to play USC. One of the road matches is Arizona, who has been looking formidable. We'll quickly find out if UW is capable of competing with top teams or not. And that's a rap. Scores were 25-22, 25-21, 21-25, and 25-20. Most of the sets weren't really that close. Utah thoroughly outplayed UW.

Huskies bounced back for a 3-0 sweep @ Arizona. I missed the first set, looks like they won easily. Set 2 and 3 were close and went back and forth, but Dawgs did what they needed to. It's looking like just about any team in the conference is capable of beating anyone else on any given night. I don't think there are any truly bad teams. Stanford is definitely the team to beat. After that it's going to be really interesting to see how things shake out as the season progresses. Watching a bit of Washington St. @ Arizona St. now. ASU's coach is former UW standout Sanja Tomasevic, a member of the 2005 National Championship team.

Didn't see any of it, Dawgs got swept by Arizona St. today. That's unexpected. UW now in a 5 way tie for 2nd place at 4-2.

UW swept Cal on Friday and got swept by Stanford Saturday. Sanders is back at MB from her injury. Niece had a huge game Friday. Results not too surprising, but Cal has played a bunch of 5 setters in conference. They haven't been winning, but they've been very competitive.

UW hosts the LA schools this week on Wednesday and Friday. Big week. USC is 6-2, UW and UCLA are both 5-3. Both matches will have a big impact on the race for 2nd place in the conference. Stanford is still unbeaten.
