So the fact that they climbed the peak the next day makes me wonder how they were able to negotiate the "icefield" that stopped them the previous night? I guess the SAR team might have brought axes and crampons for them, but unlikely. I climbed the West Ridge on 8/3, a week later (without axe or crampons) and came across no snow of note, but I guess it could have all melted over the previous heatwave week. I did come across two unaccompanied backpacks on the rib West of the Long John Tower. I wonder if those were theirs?
