Is it normal to do this climb without any traction? From my vantage you were pretty unprepared. And no maps preloaded? I'm new here, but I feel like I plan more than this to do Mt Si.
Congrats on reaching your goal!

No it's not normal, I just knew I would be comfortable with the type of snow we would encounter without traction. I was focusing on staying light as possible. If I expected more ice or firmer snow I would have brought microspikes, however I knew what type of snow to expect on Glacier Peak in early October.
Regarding maps, we had them, just a little malfunction on Josh's phone GPS. We made it work though.
Thanks

Super cool accomplishment and congrats.
I am planning to solo Glacier this weekend and was wondering, did you stay off glacier and just climb directly up Disappointment Peak? I was surprised to read that it was class 4, because based on images, it does not look that steep.

We did a class 4 variation. Off to the left more as you approach the steeper crux it’s a snow chute and class 2. But yes we completely avoided the glacier.
