Haven't hiked much this season, but I wanted to see the Fall colors in the Enchantments---so, Saturday I left Auburn at 4:00 am and headed to Leavenworth. Since I was alone, I did the whole loop, parking at the Snow Creek t/h and walking the road to the Stuart Lake t/h to start the regular route. The extra miles are kinda boring, but a selection of favorite podcasts helped. I call this one "stoopud" because hiking the road section, I turned down ride offers from three separate cars...duh... The hike was fantastic, and I spent most of the day snapping pix and hanging out with the weekend hordes. Some pixels...
It was dark when I left Snow Cr. t/h, but pretty by the time I reached Eight Mile Camp...
Colchuck Lake, from the pre-Aasgard boulders...
Moving up Aasgard...
On top, water and snack break. The hard part's over, now the payoff!
D-Tail...
Goatz!
Moving through the Uppers...
Campers...
Prusik Peak...
I climbed the W. Ridge ages ago w/ Erick Johnson--great route!
Some more pretty...
Nothing like the Ench-aaaaah-ntments in Fall!
Happy, casual wandering on a warm day...
Purdy! hahaha
I was a week or two late for the best color--wasn't bad, though...
Finished up in the Lowers, time to bolt to the car!
The hikeout was pretty much what I remember from doing this thing about ten years ago, except that it looks like one set of rocky switchbacks below the dam might have gotten wrecked by a slide recently, because there's an ultra-steep section of trail that I don't remember. When did those switches get wiped out? Owell...
--Thanks, Enchantments, for an AMAZING day in the hills!
