Steve and I had this trip planned earlier in the week but he got caught up in a three day trip across the boundary trail in the Pasayten with Wildernessed and Wildernessed’s daughter Hannah so we waited until the weekend. That means he had two back to back three day trips where he woke with ice on the inside of his tent each morning! We camped the first night in what is left of Timothy Meadows after the quaking aspen has taken over.

By the time we left the lakes it was only a few more hours before the sun would be getting low. Because it would be a couple hours back to camp we did not go all the way on up to Ladies Pass. I went part way and ate an early dinner while Steve continued on to the top of the bench before he bailed also.

The trail has been logged out to the lakes within the past year or so. Some cuts were very recent. However, there are some recent downfall mostly in the first five miles.

Bonus tip: the first night even with a 0* down bag my feet were so cold I had trouble sleeping so the second night I tried an experiment. I emptied the main compartment of my HMG cuben pack and put it inside the sleeping bag so it acted as an insulating bag over the lower half of my body. Huge difference in warmth. That will be my new method for cold sleeping.

Good trip!

Steve just added these two photos of me on the trail. The difference is he was using a camera and I was using my phone. Thanks.

No, but we saw some nice ones in there without even looking very hard. The ones we saw in Brigham were much smaller.

I gave up fishing long ago because my hands get numb unhooking them even in warm weather. Steve will always fish down to a certain temperature then he has the same problem I do. Did I mention our water bottles froze solid both nights in the tent!

Your eyes did not lie....a raft and a spin around the lake with my wife and daughter (separate spins) was an unforgettable fishing experience for both.

My buddy Tom and I were up at Lake Augusta last weekend and it dropped to 17 degrees according to a man we chatted with who had a thermometer.  Our warming method was 3 dogs in the tent!

Yea most of the S. Fork trail was logged out in July time frame, however the lower part of Chiwaukum trail will be a problem for some time to come with the burned trees falling. This is the first year on the trail where downed trees really being an issue since it burned. Fishing was ok.

Cool temperatures, but bug-free is the payoff.  I've only looked up the valley or down upon.  Looks tempting.   tongue.gif

Nice  up.gif

We caught some BIG cutts out of Flora in late July 2017. 5-year stocking cycle (2005, 2010, 2015), so the big ones were likely 7 y.o. fish.

Yeah, the fish in Brigham were much smaller, although very hungry.

Was that campfire ring in the upper Timothy Meadow where you guys pitched your tent. I dismantled one right in the meadow next to the ring this weekend.

I am a little bit confused (ring next to a ring?). There was a vintage well worn campsite off to the side of the meadow next to the trees and creek that had a fire ring. We did not see one out in the meadow.
