Affluent dog owners have given rise to services like My Dog Hikes, which, for $85 to $130 a day, will take dogs hiking in beautiful places outside the city, while their owners are cooped up in cubicles.
a couple years ago, I was hiking up the 'last chance promontory" when I ran into a pack of dogs tearing all over the place gleefully. Eventually a man hiked up the trail, not expecting to see me, and we chatted about things. His business was taking peoples dogs on long walk/hikes. He was trying to reel in one of the critters who was way ahead on his own.
