I'm sad to report that on November 8th, my mother passed away. She'd been battling Parkinson's for the past few yrs., a ruthless disease that affects a person's mobility and independence. I'd been going to Tucson periodically to help my sister w/caregiving duties, and am grateful that I was able to be with her for her last couple wks. of life. She'd been in a rehab hospital and then released, and was home for 2 days and spent much of that time sleeping. On the afternoon of the 8th I saw her one moment sleeping in her recliner, and when I came back through the room a few minutes later she was gone. However it happens is heartbreaking, but we knew she was glad to be home & if given the choice would've wanted to be @ home rather than in some uncomfortable hospital. My parents were both hikers and hike leaders, & no doubt were responsible for my love of hiking today. In later yrs. I mostly hiked w/my mom & one of my sisters, & occasionally a friend or two. After I moved out on my own, when I'd go back to visit Tucson I would usually do some hiking w/my mom. Of course this tapered off over the yrs. as she developed medical issues & had less energy, but I will always cherish those days in the mtns. w/her. smile.gif I wrote her obituary, where I tried to sum up 82 yrs. into a nutshell: http://www.carrillostucsonmortuary.com/memsol.cgi?user_id=2148460 She of course will be in my thoughts always, and especially while in the mountains. smile.gif

I am so sorry for your loss B.C. That's quite a tribute that you wrote for your mom. Such a fine legacy--especially your love of hiking and connection with Nature.

B.C., I am sorry for your loss. May your mother be at peace. Your article details a lovely woman who lived a good life. It is very interesting how she got into weather forecasting via a math degree. Now we also know why you are such a good desert hiker. It sounds like hiking skills are just one of many blessings your mother gave to you.

I lost my mother earlier this year in almost the same circumstances. We were so happy it was at home and not anywhere else. My sincere condolences B.C.

B.C., Our youngest was born in Tucson and we return semi-frequently. I will think of your mom up in Romero, Wilderness of Rocks, Peppersauce, and Sabino. So sorry for your loss. Tom

You are fortunate to have good memories of your Mother. Condolences to you and your family.
