I can't believe it's been 6 years since our last feature film, Out of the Mist; and 7 years since FreeRider. We had plans for others, but they're becoming more and more physically demanding for us to do, plus very time-consuming. So, we've basically shied away from any big projects, though we are happy to lend our knowledge and expertise to others. And, you never know, if the right story comes along we might get back in the game. In the meantime, Robert's always shooting and making short films to share, plus we're trying to put up as much of his footage as possible for all to enjoy, and for the sake of posterity.
So, he recently went back to all his archived bear footage and made a short film with it, Our Bears. From 2001 (when he first started shooting with miniDV tape) to 2017 (shooting in digital 4K with a Lumix GH5 DSLR). We've probably had over 30 separate encounters. Some were really close, and others distant. But, all were exciting. Some years we saw many, some years none. We progressed from knowing nothing about bear behavior to becoming pretty familiar with it. We always respected their space by giving them a wide berth, not just for our safety, but for theirs too. We secured our food. And, we never carried bear spray.

Wow, that's a very nice bear film.
It's easy to understand why there have been so many grizzly bear sightings given how big, brown, and furry those black bears are.
Thanks guys, I will tell Robert. He worked hard on finding all the old footage.
Yeah ... this one frequents Spray Park, and peps keep thinking it's a grizz ... not! I took it on a day hike with friends right next to the trail. Needless to say, we kept our distance till it was safe to get around.
Not a great shot ... but you get the idea .. a beautiful bear in Spray Park at the end of a spectacular day
