I bought some cedar fence boards from the hardware store in Granite Falls to use for an interior wall of a cabin. The quality was amazing compared to boards from HD and Lowes, the price I don't exactly recall, I am thinking 15-20 % more. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Go placidly amid the noise and waste, and remember what comfort there may be in owning a piece thereof.

It's not exactly in your neighborhood, but Issaquah Cedar & Lumber usually has a good product, but not big box prices. . . .

It is as though I had read a divine text, written into the world itself, not with letters but rather with essential objects, saying: Man, stretch thy reason hither, so thou mayest comprehend these things. Johannes Kepler

Look for it at a real lumber/building supply business. The box stores do suck when it comes to lumber quality.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

Plus as you probably already know, most places give a bulk purchase discount price.

Any full service lumberyard will have better lumber than Home Despot or Lowe’s. Usually the price will be lower also. Issaquah Cedar and lumber is more of a boutique but they have really nice stock especially for outdoor furniture.

It would help to know the use for the cedar. Interior? Exterior? Decking? Trim? Beware, there is a lot of crap cedar for sale out there. Make sure that there is absolutely NO sapwood if for exterior use.

Hopefully you won't do one of those weird sideways fences that seems to have become more prevalent as of late. down.gif How does one know how to identify and avoid "sapwood"? smile.gif

+1 for Stewart Lumber. It's one of the few old timey family kind of places left too.

There was a three page discussion on this very topic in May, 2017. One of the places mentioned was Mill Outlet in Tacoma. (Note: I have no experience with them, but they were local.) ~z

I got some at Dunn this year, which was way better than the stock at Lowes. Probably any lumber yard will bet better than a big box store.

Issaquah Lumber sells 7/8" cedar fence boards, they usually do not warp and twist. Mine haven't after 15 years. It is good to cover the tops to keep rain out. I like to top the fence posts with a 2x6. Otherwise you will see rot in just a few years. They cost more than the home center 5/8" ones, no surprise. And you won't be standing there picking through the pile. A well built cedar fence, with best quality materials, should last 40 years. Good luck.
