Better late than never.
I have 13 images I've processed and are ready to print. They're from my phone, so they're a very wide aspect ratio. I had Costco in mind, but after uploading them all, I can't get it to print a calendar without cropping them. I'd like to have a black or white border instead, like watching a movie in letterbox.
Anybody know where I can have a calendar printed like that? Or, know the aspect ratio Costco wants so I can add the border myself?
Thanks!

You can increase the canvas height in Photoshop so the height and width of the canvas are the same and the calendar software will crop the top and bottom instead of the sides. However, depending on the color you use for the blank canvas it may not look good. Solid black generally does not print well and you may see blotchiness or streaks. If you can save in a format that allows transparency that may be the best.

Costco uses a 3x4 aspect ratio. I typically use the extra real estate to add a caption. Use a white background and then it will seem that the caption is not connected to the photo.
Note: I’ve stopped using Costco because they’ve messed up too many times. e.g. Photo upside down, or back to front, or missing holes to hang the calendar, or sporting someone else’s photo... I’ve started to use Vistaprint, and have been much happier. Also, Costco does not give quantity discounts, which Vistaprint does.

Thanks for this! I was going to use black, I'm using a lot of photos with a lot of snow, and it's not perfectly white so I thought a white background would call attention to that. But what you're describing will look much worse. I'll do something else and a white background because of this.

I was grateful for the magic 3x4 number, but then I read your warning. And it looks like Vistaprint's pricing blows Costco out of the water. Thanks!!
Do you know if this is also 3x4? I'll Lexie's the canvas, do there caption myself in Photoshop, and look forward to the result.
I've never made my own calendar before.

I've used a white background with Costco's "premium" calendar option (and Vistaprint) and you can't tell it's there. You can see the photos here:
