Although it varies by location. Baker and Alpental have just moderate winds, but Paradise, Stevens, and Crystal have strong winds. The award, though, goes to White Pass with 8 hours in a row with peak gusts in the 95 to 109 range; And Mission peak gusts just topped 101 this hour. Meanwhile in the lowlands, not too bad. Pretty strange how different conditions are at different mountaintop stations. https://www.nwac.us/weatherdata/

Is this due to the jet stream dipping down into the atmosphere a bit do you suppose? Or maybe just a low pressure area moving through.

Don't know as I haven't looked at that specifically. But the current water vapor satellite loop is pretty spectacular right now. https://www.ssd.noaa.gov/goes/west/weus/h5-loop-wv.html You can also see that once the cold front drops through the mountains will only get piddling amounts of new snow, except in convergence, which wouldn't show in this image. Dust on crust once again.

Only moderate gusts in the Middle Fork Snoqualmie today. If it had been bad I would have left. Lots of fresh blowdown from recent days but everything on the road has been cleared. On I90 this morning the trucks were veering back and forth in their lanes from the wind.

But they didn't close the hill until noon. That's from their website.

What's especially fun about sock puppets is that you can make each one unique and individual, so that they each have special characters. And they don't have to be human––animals and aliens are great possibilities

They also said that their RV parking lot was full tonight.

There was a low flying train warning earlier. Only moderate outside Granite Falls.

Maybe so but that doesn't say anything about the winds. They have a much lower lift. The Pigtail Peak data comes from wind gauges at the top maintained by NWAC. Mission averaged about ten miles an hour less.

The solstice windstorm was before the date of this thread but is topical. We just missed a storm that could have caused a lot of blow down on trails.
Quote:
The Solstice Eve Windstorm of 2018 A major windstorm struck southwest British Columbia and northwest Washington on 20 December 2018. This Solstice Eve Storm produced high winds over a large region that included Victoria, Vancouver, Abbotsford and Bellingham. Numerous trees–weakened by a record-setting summer drought and with compromised root systems due to saturated soils in some locations–were blown over by the heavy gusts, resulting in widespread disruption of key lifelines, including roads, transportation service by BC Ferries and the electrical grid.
[Edit] Fixed second story link. Thanks Zephyr Another story here
Quote:
Powerful winds topple trees, knock out power north of Olympics A rare mountain wave event brought strong localized winds that toppled trees, knocked out power and closed highways in the Port Angeles area and beyond Friday. Wind gusts hit as high as 40 to 55 mph, creating havoc along the Strait of Juan de Fuca coastline and north of the Olympic Mountains.

Hi, puzzlr, Thanks for the link to that article. Long and dense with information and visuals. The author is a very interesting fellow from his bio on the side. That second link takes you to the photo you posted. Was that supposed to be a second article? Thanks, ~z

I have to admit, I only read a fraction of that article. But the gist of what I read was interesting.
